A variation is a copy of a script that stays linked to the original through a shared Group. You create one with Create Variation on the Scripts tab, change what you want to test or refresh, and activate it next to the original. The dashboard then shows both under the same group so you can see which version sells. Variations serve two purposes: giving a fan who did not buy a second, different pitch of the same scene, and testing one change (a price, an opening, a media) without losing the original's numbers.
Where to find it
On a script's row, the second action icon, Create Variation ("Create a new variation of this script, starting from the first paid step"), opens the Duplicate Script page ("Create variation of" followed by the original's name). The Group column of the Scripts tab shows the shared identifier; sort by it to see a scene and all its versions together.

The Duplicate Script page
The page is the script editor pre-filled with the original: name with "(copy)" appended, description, the two timers, and every step with its message, media, prices and follow-ups. The button at the bottom reads Create Variation. Nothing is saved until you click it.

The toast on success is "Script duplicated successfully!". Errors: "Error duplicating script", "Could not prepare script variation. Please try again." (the original could not be loaded, go back and retry), "Script not found" ("The script you're trying to duplicate could not be found.").
The guided tour of the page gives the rule in two sentences: "Variations stay linked to the original, so the dashboard can tell you which version sells better. Change one thing."
Why versions exist
Re-pitching a fan who did not buy
Most fans who receive a script stop at the first paid step. They have seen the free teasers and the first paid message, refused, and the script is now used for them. A variation of the same scene is a second chance: same media behind the paywall (they never saw it), but new free teasers and a new first paid message, so the re-pitch does not repeat the pitch that failed.
That is what the action's description means by "starting from the first paid step": the variation is about how the fan reaches the first price. What comes after it, the fan has never seen, and can stay the same.
So for a re-pitch version, change only what a non-buyer has seen:
| Element | Change it? | How |
|---|---|---|
| Free teasers (media and text) | Yes | Other items from the same scene, ideally never used as free teasers before; rewrite the messages. |
| First paid step message | Yes | A different angle: a dare instead of a confession, a question instead of a statement. |
| First paid step follow-ups | Yes, if any | They go out to the fans who did not pay: new wording. |
| Description | Adapt the opening | The setting and progression stay; the "when it fits" and the first lines must match the new opening. Never write "version 2" or "for fans who saw the first one": any version can be the first one a fan gets. |
| First paid step media | No | Locked, never seen. |
| Later paid steps | No | Never seen by a non-buyer. |
Keep two or three active versions per scene at most. Beyond that, the fan who refused three times is unlikely to buy a fourth opening; a new scene works better.
Testing one change
The second use is measurement. Duplicate, change a single thing, activate both, compare the rows on the dashboard after enough fans have received each. Candidates worth testing, one at a time:
- The prices of the ladder (same media, same messages).
- The opening: two free teasers instead of three.
- The pacing before the first paid step (Normal against Many).
- The first paid step's media (a video instead of photos).
- A discount on the first paid step, or none.
If two versions differ by the price, the media and the messages at once, the numbers cannot tell you which change worked. See Prices and discounts.
Naming versions
The name is for you and for the dashboard. Put the scene and the version in it, and what the version changes: "Gaming (V1)", "Gaming (V2 dare opening)", "Gaming (V3 prices +20%)". Remove the "(copy)" the page adds. Every screen that lists scripts (Scripts tab, Best Script tile, Scripts Performance table, the "Scripts used" tooltip on the Fans tab) shows this name.
Activating versions
A variation is created inactive, like any saved script. Flip its Active switch on the Scripts tab when it is ready. The original keeps its own switch: you can run both, or deactivate the original once the variation wins. Deactivating keeps the numbers of the old version on the dashboard.
Keep the First star on the best cold-fan opener, whatever its version, and unstar it before you deactivate that version (a starred script cannot be deactivated).
Comparing versions on the dashboard
Open Dashboard, then the Scripts tab. The Scripts Performance table lists every script with its Revenue and Global Conv., and a "Group:" line under the name. Sort by Best revenue or Best conversion, or by Name to see versions side by side. Expand a row for Steps Detail: per step, Sent, Paid, Conv. and Rev., with discounted sales flagged.

What to compare between two versions of the same scene:
- Sent on step 1: are both versions actually going out? A version created last week has fewer fans; give it time before judging.
- Conv. on the first paid step: this is the number the opening changes.
- Rev. per script: the final word.
Then act as the tour says: "duplicate winners, retire losers". See Activate and monitor a script.
